The Home Shopping Network

Convenience via your computer

Once upon a time shopping meant going out to a mall, fighting your way through crowds, standing in line to be served and carrying heavy items back to your car or home on the bus. Nowadays you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your home to go shopping. I’m talking, of course, about the home shopping network.

The home shopping network has been around a few years now.  Those of us who have made use of it in the past will remember that initially, the way it worked was that you watched the individual ads, and then phoned to order the featured item. Although it was a breakthrough way of shopping, the home shopping network at that time had a restricted number of things you could purchase. That’s no longer the case as these days you can access the home shopping network online, and users of this online superstore find they have a huge variety of goods to choose from.

Increasingly, the old way of shopping in malls and stores is changing.  Although you may not believe it when you’re in a crowd at the shopping mall, many people, myself included, are staying at home and getting our shopping delivered. You can buy almost anything online and get it delivered right to your door, including groceries. It’s fantastically convenient, especially for those who have limited mobility or transport problems.

The home shopping network is a great place to find all kinds of things for your home and garden, as well as personal items.  You can buy electronics, exercise equipment, cosmetics, jewelry, linen, furniture and much more. If you have online access or a phone, you're set.

The home shopping network was one the first online stores of its kind, but nowadays there are many others vying for customers. One big advantage to online shopping is the price of goods.  Online is the only place we can easily compare hundreds of price options from many different online stores.  Because of competition between the stores there are always more and more companies trying to get our custom by lowering prices or offering a weekly or daily best buy discount.  As it is, prices are generally lower online anyway since businesses have far less overheads such as rent and staff costs. Without such high running costs as conventional stores, an online business can pass the reduced costs on to their customers.

One of the biggest competitors for the home shopping network is one of the first to appear on the market, QVC. Whether you choose to purchase jewelry, household items, electronics or gifts on QVC or the home shopping network, you will generally find as good a deal as you would in a retail store.  If you’re concerned about the shipping costs, then consider what going to a mall would cost in terms of fuel and parking. Plus you’re going to be making savings on the items you purchase anyway. Some sites even offer free shipping.  If you like to shop but hate malls, or if you’re a bargain hunter, then it’s worth taking a look at some of the home shopping network sites.
