Useful Gifts For Dad
In this article May Taylor tells us why she finds buying gifts for dad so easy.
Gifts for dad are, in my opinion, some of the easiest to get. Of course, I have the easiest dad in the world to shop for. He adores anything electronic. Show him a gadget and his eyes light up with glee. Anyone wanting to see the evolution of electronic gadgets from the late twentieth century onwards could simply visit my dad’s home office. It resembles a techno-jungle, filled with so many gadgets and devices it’s a wonder he can get into it. So for me, finding gifts for dad is as easy walking into a gadget store and picking out the latest device that beeps, flashes or has moving parts.
I’m sure I’m not the only one out there with a techno-mad dad, but I suppose there are just as many dads who have an aversion to gadgets. If you have a father like that, finding good gifts for dad may be a little bit more complicated, but not too much. One thing that many dads have in common is some kind of hobby or interest. If it isn’t gadgets, then it’s something else, such as sport, wine, history, travel, music, woodworking, cars, books or gardening. There’s usually something that your dad does whenever he gets the time, and you probably know what it is. Functional gifts make good gifts for dad, because all men like gifts that they’ll use. So, whatever your dad’s hobby is, think of some things he could use for it. If he’s keen on DIY, for instance, get him some shiny new tools to replace those poor-quality ones he’s been using for years. If his hobby is an expensive one, don’t worry; even the most expensive hobbies can lead to cheaper gift ideas. There are hundreds of magazines devoted to different hobbies, so why not give dad a subscription to one?
What if your dad doesn’t have a hobby? What does he do in his free time? If he doesn’t have any hobbies at all, it’s probably because he’s working all the time. So, treat his work like his hobby and get him something he’ll use there! How about a silk tie, or a classy pen or a new briefcase? If he’s working too hard then consider giving him the gift of a break. It could be somewhere relaxing like a spa, or for the more adventurous dad, something like offroading or a day at a paintball center.
Traditional gifts such as clothes will never go amiss. Just ensure it’s something your dad would want to wear often. A woman may get excited about an outfit she’ll only wear once a year, but a man will feel unenthusiastic about it and possibly never wear it at all.
So remember, when buying gifts for dad stick to the main rule - get him something useful and you won't go wrong!
