If you’re trying to save money, one of the best ways to save is to cut down on your expenses.  This can range from eating out less often to moving to a smaller apartment.  Cutting down on expenses doesn’t necessarily mean you have to buy fewer things, but you can save a lot if you buy the items at lower prices.

One great way to save money is to buy discounted clothes. You may try to avoid it, but we all need to buy new clothes now and then, whether for a job interview, a special occasion or a change of season.

T here is a considerable markup on most clothes sold in department stores. This means that if you watch out for sales or clearances you can get discounted clothes for half as much as buying them at the full retail price.  This holds true for men’s, women’s, and even children’s clothes in almost every department store.   Watch for particularly large discounts right after the holidays when stores are trying to clear out inventories they’ve built for the holiday season.  Also, look for end-of-season sales.  Leftover winter clothing is usually sold at deep discounts when spring approaches, and summer clothes can be picked up for a song in late fall.   The best way to find discounted clothes at rock-bottom prices is to keep an eye on the types of clothes you want, but hold off buying them until they go on sale.  This plan should net you the best bargains in retail department stores.

Another often overlooked place to get discounted clothes is at a consignment store, Salvation Army, or Goodwill outlet.  Though some people may sneer at the idea of buying pre-owned discounted clothes, it’s a great way to build up your wardrobe on a budget.  Some high-end consignment and used clothing stores will have suits and dresses from top fashion designers such as Polo and Dolce & Gabanna at amazing prices.  Naturally, these clothes are well-cleaned and well looked-after, and they’ll allow you to dress in designer clothes at department store prices.  Other used clothing outlets like Goodwill, the Salvation Army, or Savers require you to do a little more hunting in order to track down good deals.  However, if you’re willing to sort through the numerous racks of clothes you can very often snag some amazing deals.
