Bathroom Remodeling
Create the bathroom of your dreams
Do you go into your bathroom and feel down? Do you sigh about the worn flooring, detest the color of the bath or wish you had different lighting? Perhaps you’ve moved house and don’t like the previous owners’ tastes. You may think it's not worth doing anything about, but it could be time to reconsider. Bathroom remodeling can add value to your home as well as provide a haven for you to relax in.
Take time to explore all the possibilities when deciding on bathroom remodeling - there are a lot of things you can do to improve the space, ranging from simple to elaborate.
Larger bathrooms are very popular now. If you can afford it, and if there's room for it, why not extend a few feet? In times past bathrooms were often built to tiny proportions. But that's not what today's busy people want now. They want a place to escape to, to unwind and let the cares of the day drift away.
Maybe you also have a small window. You might want to consider enlarging the window along with the room. This gives you scope to add different forms of bathroom lighting. While you’re soothing in your new bath you might want dim, relaxing light. But if you're shaving, obviously you need something brighter. It's your room, so go ahead and increase your options along with the dimensions of the bathroom.
Another method of transforming your bathroom is to install underfloor heating. It will cost you to install, of course, but once the initial outlay is past it runs very efficiently and will save you money. Imagine the comfort of being able to walk on your warm bathroom floor barefoot! And, because warm air rises, if the floor's warm, that means the rest of the room is too.
If underfloor heating is beyond your budget, then another way to create warmth is by the use of electric towel warmers. Electric towel warmers come in a variety of styles from simple and inexpensive to something resembling an art form in your bathroom. I wouldn’t be without mine – I just love the feeling, especially on a winter’s morning, of wrapping myself in a warm towel after showering.
Consider whether your bathroom fixtures like cabinets are worth keeping. If they are, refinishing them in a lighter color is a simple way to give them a new lease of life. For a touch of luxury, top them with custom-cut marble. Add new bathroom accessories to match. Paint the walls a new color or get stylish wallpaper for them.
Doesn't this make you want to get started on your bathroom remodeling right away? First, though, get some idea of what’s available and affordable. You can browse online or in home improvement stores. Take note of what you like and what you don't. Read through some of the many home improvement magazines for inspiration, or watch home makeover shows. When you start interviewing prospective contractors you'll have a good idea of what you need, and be able to properly explain to the professionals what it is that you want. It’s best to choose a tradesperson who has been recommended, or whose work you have seen. Remember to check that they have the proper credentials, including a Diamond Certified rating.
Use your imagination when planning a bathroom remodeling, and it’s likely you will end up with the bathroom of your dreams!
