Arts And Crafts For Children
Encourage their creativity
The moment you first give your children crayons and a piece of paper, you're opening the door to an exciting new world of creativity. Arts and crafts for children offer endless ways to inspire, amuse, learn and achieve.
Children, if given the tools, show an interest in arts and crafts from an early age. Start with simple drawing. Toddlers love to take hold of a thick crayon and make marks on paper. It helps them with fundamental motor skills and gives them their first steps into learning about colors.
Play dough is a wonderful crafts material for children. They can get so much pleasure from play dough - squishing the substance between their fingers, forming it into shapes, cutting it with tools, blending it to make new colors. Everything gets in a mess - play dough gets mashed into clothes, hair, shoes, the floor...but of course that's part of the fun for pre-schoolers. The messier the better!
Speaking of messy, let’s move onto painting. Give children a pot of thick paint, scrap paper, a fat paintbrush, sponge or even their hands, and they're happy. If you hate the thought of having paint everywhere, take it outdoors. At first, small children will make random patterns; as they grow they will start to paint objects and scenes. And, as with play dough, the use of painting materials will not only improve children’s manipulation skills, but also encourage their imaginations and teach them about shape and substance.
As children develop, the range of arts and crafts they can do will increase also, and with a huge and diverse range of arts and crafts available, there is something for every child to enjoy.
Don’t forget to join in sometimes – arts and crafts can be fun for the whole family. A word of warning – don’t ever force your child to do a craft if they’re not interested. It’s supposed to be an enjoyable activity. If you really want them to become involved, try different options such as doing outdoor crafts, seasonal crafts or using different materials. Also, don’t ever criticize or belittle your child’s work of art. Children can get an enormous sense of achievement from learning how to do a craft or creating a piece of art. Don’t spoil that.
So, if you want to give your children the ability to do something creative, imaginative and morale-boosting instead of watching television, encourage them to delve into the world of arts and crafts. It could be one of the best things you do for your children.
